Citrus County is unique among counties in Florida due to its abundant resources, scenic beauty, and the sensitive nature of its land. The hills, beautiful clear rivers fed by free-flowing springs, forests, wildlife, access to lakes, rivers and Gulf of Mexico for fishing, boating and swimming. The County’s rural atmosphere makes it an attractive place in which to live.

Golf is one of the most popular pastimes in Citrus County where enthusiasts are offered a number of world-class courses. Both private and public courses are available and both fun and challenging courses abound.

 

    Both freshwater and saltwater fishing in the Citrus County Florida area are excellent. Close to area beaches, canoeing, kayaking and boating are all available in close proximity year round. Don’t miss the world famous manatees in the area. These loveable creatures area abundant throughout the waters of the region and can be viewed up close and personal at the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park. Snorkeling with the manatees provide an awesome experience.

 

    The unspoiled coastal salt marshes and buffer preserves provide excellent opportunities for those interested in bird watching. Our coastal waters are teaming with a plethora of feathered varieties. Citrus County is fortunate enough to have been designated for reintroduction of the very rate and majestic whooping crane.

 

    The Citrus County area also prides itself in providing modern public school complexes and high educational standards. The area also offers modern hospital and medical facilities, parks, museums and historical sites.

 

Current Weather Condtions

Area temperatures range from an average low of 57 degrees in January to a high of 81degrees in July. Precipitation averages are 2.5 in April to our wettest month in August of 7.4 inches. For over half the year, no heating or cooling is necessary.

Citrus County is served by Orlando International Airport, Tampa International as well as the smaller Ocala International and Gainesville Regional. For private planes there are Crystal River Airport, Dunnellon Marion County Airport and Inverness Airport.

In and around Citrus County, are Central Florida Community College in Ocala, University of Florida in Gainesville and Pasco-Hernando community College in Brooksville. Others, within driving distance, are University of Central Florida, St. Leo University, University of South Florida and Hillsborough Community College.
